The amount of employees with side jobs is on the rise because people just can’t make it on a single paycheck. The only real answer for many people is to perform a business quietly or have a second, part-time job. While many employers encourage employees to find outside employment, others are involved that a second job will affect job performance. Some are even worried that the employee may have a position with a competitor or start up a competing business.

When you yourself have thought about taking a part-time job or opening your own business, you must look closely at the next tips to side step problems along with your employer.

Did you sign an agreement whenever you started doing work for your current employer? Many companies require that new hires sign a non-compete contract side hustle for moms. This contract basically says that you can’t work for or begin a competing business within a certain mile radius of the company. Some contracts are much more limited. Make sure to read any contractual paperwork that you signed when you’re hired before taking employment elsewhere.

Should you have a second job, you must never let it interfere along with your current work. Do not perform second job functions while on the clock at your first job. Never answer or make telephone calls, answer emails or perform job duties. If an urgent situation happens, take personal time or vacation time from most of your position to look after it. Do not get this to routine though.

You should even avoid networking for side jobs while you’re on the clock. Granted, it can be tempting to speak up when the opportunity arises especially if you own your own business. Always make an effort to down play your additional employment while clocked in. You can always go back later and speak about your other business.

If holding two jobs proves to become more than you are able to handle, you must seriously consider quitting your second job. If you fail to quit the 2nd job as a result of financial commitments, there are other avenues as possible consider. Could you request a raise or find a new job that pays more? Side jobs of the entrepreneurial nature are specifically difficult to juggle. Prioritize and prepare yourself to negotiate along with your current employer as soon as your business takes off.
